Australian-born Megan Park studied fashion design at RMIT, and upon leaving college began work as a textile designer in Melbourne. In 1993 she moved to London to begin designing textiles for a well-respected agency working for the likes of Givenchy, Dries van Noten and Kenzo. In 1997, Megan launched her own label in London with an eponymous collection of evening bags and scarves, which has now grown to include womenswear and accessories collections, as well as Megan Park Girl (for girls aged 2-6,) and Megan Park Home (a soft furnishings home collection). Having established her reputation Internationally, in 2004 Megan followed her heart back to Australia, which is now where she and her team are based. Whilst Megan works from her design studio in Fitzroy, Melbourne, she and her design team continues to travel the globe collecting inspiration from places such as the Parisian flea markets, street vendors in Hong Kong, and the bead markets of Old Delhi.
Every item in Megan’s collection has been stitched, beaded and embroidered by hand in India by highly skilled artisans whose skills have been passed down through the generations. All of the prints in her collection are exclusive to Megan Park –designed and developed during the three or more months each year she spends in India working closely with these accomplished craftsmen to produce her distinctive collection. Each fabric is hand-dyed according to the season’s palette, before being stretched over a frame for embroidery, and finally the garment is assembled by hand. Printing techniques employed include hand block and hand screen-printing, each colour individually applied under the trained eye of the printer who keeps up a steady, seamless pattern. Embroidery is applied by hand, using two traditional styles of embroidery – zardosi and ari, which incorporate a variety of different beads, sequins, crystals and stones, all of the highest quality. This sumptuous beading, embroidery and hand printing are Megan’s trademarks, and her feminine designs have a timeless appeal.
