Khayangan Estate is a fully self-contained, private luxury estate set in 1.5 hectares of verdant tropical gardens, immediately adjacent to the Bvlgari Resort and Spa, 170 metres above the white sand seclusion of Selonding beach, on the southern-most tip of Bali’s Bukit peninsula.

Utilising a blend of contemporary design and European influences. A cluster of eleven antique Indonesian joglos - once the traditional homes of Javanese aristocracy - have been saved from destruction and lovingly restored and refitted with contemporary luxury interiors and state-of-the-art fixtures and fittings to bring you an exclusive and utterly indulgent holiday experience.

There are six bedroom suites providing ultra lavish accommodation for a private party of 12 persons in fully air-conditioned bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, two living and dining pavilions, a private office, a private professional spa, a cliff-side pavilion, a floodlit tennis court and a well-equipped fitness centre, all set around a magnificent terraced garden of yellow irises, fragrant frangipani and swaying palm trees, overlooking the dramatic vastness of the Indian Ocean.

The beautiful original features of the joglos, such as their distinctive funnel-shaped roofs and elaborately hand carved pondopo center-pieces, panels and beams, have been preserved and complemented with glass walls, old teak wood floors, hand-made reclaimed teak furniture, ultra-comfortable and stylish soft furnishings and top of the range entertainment and communications facilities, together with all the comforts and services you would expect from a five star resort.

Location Vienna Woods, Lower Austria
Architect Xarchitekten
Text Wolfgang Haas
Pictures Max Nirnberger, Lorenz Prommegger

This modern residential building is situated in the Wienerwald (Vienna woods), a recreational area north of the city of Vienna. The client commissions a residential building which is considered as a statement of modern architecture and at the same time communicates with the rural environment. The interior is to be designed as an open living space and it is important to have a light and sunny living atmosphere.

The folding of the rooms and the interior development realise an analytically clear structure.
The building as a serpentine line enables residents a ground level access to the gardens on all levels. The garden, attic, bedrooms and living rooms are intertwined.

The folded house combines two elements: The serpentine line gives the impression to create more space. The building enables the residents to enjoy the surrounding landscape with room-high windows to the south. The colour white emphasises this leading element. A protecting wall on the north side completes the folding of the room.

The vertical development – realised as a light notch along the whole building – combines both elements. The light notch adds more light by additionally leading vertical daylight into the building and therefore enables a quick orientation.

"Kitchen sink surrealism."
by London based artist Byroglyphics (aka Russ Mills)

RussMills says :
"My illustrations are not too scientific, they begin life as sketches in ink, the tool of choice is the Bic ‘fine’ because it gives me a lot more mileage than more expensive, snootier fine liners that break if you give them too much stick. The sketch is transported into my ageing mac and then abused in photoshop (you may have heard of it) i use this because of the joy of multiple undo’s plus its the closest I can get to painting without painting. The next stage in byroglyphics’ life is to turn these illustrations into big canvases, it’s taken me many attempts to get to a stage where i’m confident enough to attack canvas and leave the relative safety of the computer, as with everything else it’s a constant learning curve, sometimes a downward one."

Situated in Corrubbio, in the heart of the Valpolicella area and only 7 km from the centre of Verona, Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà offers a unique and evocative setting with all the characteristics of a classical Venetian-style Villa.
The large building, featuring a 15th century façade by Michele Sanmicheli, had been abandoned for some time before being carefully renovated..

The villa has now been the object of meticulous historical refurbishment, both in terms of the architecture and the paintings and décor. Restoration has been carried out on the central and most monumental part of the villa and also on the two towers, the church and the farm buildings. The extensive gardens offer an evocative setting, with fountains, a swimming pool and a health spa (Dominique and Henri Chenot Institute).
